1st Quilt Ever, Update.... Table Runner

So I am still working on getting my first quilt done. I have it all ready to baste (sew the sandwich of fabrics together) however, it is suggested you practice this technique. So I decided to make a quilted table runner as practice when I saw this easy quilt pattern at the check out counter of my local quilt shop.

What I have learned is not to improvise on something you have little to no knowledge about.  Use the instructions and go online to ask questions or to your local quilt store. So you will see the front of my quilted table runner which looks like a beginner that was tired basted it together  okay.  But you will not see the back  that looks like a 3 year old with no sewing experience at all sewed it together looks messier then I care to admit.  If you want to see it you will have to come over for a cup of coffee and peek at it when I am not looking.

I now have to put the binding on but I did not purchase fabric for the binding. The pattern card is not for a beginner like me. It gives directions like.. now baste your quilt.  Ummm... what is baste, how do I do it.  Now bind your quilt.... again how exactly do I do that.  So I had to keep referencing the My 1st Quilt website and google searching for instructions and answers to my questions. Like why is the back all ugly loopy?

At any rate here is where I am with the table runner.  It is basted and waiting for the binding. Which I will purchase on payday! Because I got a new car and its a whole new budget around here.

I am thinking of going with a red binding to coordinate with a cream with red to make the red really pop. If I am brave I will do this, but If I chicken out I will go with beige.
