I got a dehydrator years ago at The Salvation Army for $14.99. I have made countless batches of beef jerky but I have never tried my luck at dried fruit, until to night at 1:18 am less than 12 hours after my surgery... I do not know what is wrong with me, I just see things that I feel need to get done and do them.
They say the mother of invention is necessity... my children necessitated the need for me to do something about all the fruit that I would be throwing away this week because it was going over ripe if I did not do something with it. I usually freeze the bananas for banana cake but we are trying to eat healthier and I already have a bag of frozen bananas in the freezer. So I did a quick google search and got off my behind, enlisted the help of my dear husband and started peeling and cutting fruit. The bananas were cut about 1/4 inch thick then soaked in water and true lemon along with the apples which I cut a bit thinner. The tangerines are very juicy and sweet they were just peeled and sectioned thanks to my dear husband. The marshmallows were an after thought. I had just a few in there and have been told they dry up like the marshmallows in lucky charms. I think I may know a way to get the cheerios and rice crispy cereal eaten this week! If the marshmallows work I will probably try it with a bag of the colored fruit flavored ones. I ended up with 4 full trays of fruit and a partial one with marshmallows. No rotten fruit this week!
I was to excited to wait for the finished product to post this so I will update tomorrow with a photo and review of the finished product.
