Cloth Napkins

Cloth Napkins... Economical and Environmentally Friendlier than Paper.

Okay I am not a Granola Girl, I love many things that just do not fit with that term.  I am however a big big fan of saving money and when I can do it in a way that is environmentally sound it does make me feel like I am doing something good.

The economical side:  Paper napkins and towels cost me money every time I go to the store. They get used for everything! They go fast and they are expensive. Tissues cost me 2.00 plus for a box of klenexx, a case of paper towels 16.00 napkins about 2.50.  I have to buy them all on a monthly basis because they get used without thought around here.

The environment: Saves trees and saves landfills other waste costs.  I pay for the two can trash pick up and I can not have all that waste in my garbage cans taking up room. They may break down in the landfill but still better not to put them in at all.

The Solution: Cloth Napkins, $4.10 for three matching soft towels from salvation army, $2.00 spool of thread and I have 8 cloth napkins from each towel that is 24 cloth napkins  for $6.10. They match my house colors and I do laundry with Charlies Soap which is environmentally friendly and leaves no residue. We love that soap. They are old towels so they can get washed with what ever colors because they will not bleed onto my clothes. I just toss them in with what ever load I start in the morning.

I just made them the width of my clear quilting ruler and used my rotary cutter to cut them. Then I folded in half and halved the length. So they are 6.5 inches before sewing and half the width of the towel, when done they are about the side of half a paper towel, like those choose a size paper towels.
